There are two main sources of water supply for the proposed Tata Steel SEZ at Gopalpur development – potable water and recycled water.
The source of potable water is from proposed desalination plant located near southern part of site. The potable water will be stored in the ground water tank which will have 24 hours storage capacity and subsequently pumped to respective catchments, each of which is served by its own elevated water tank. The elevated water tank will have 8 hours storage capacity.
The source for recycled water shall be from the sewage treatment plant. The recycled water can be used for non-potable purposes such as landscaping, cooling for industrial use and others. The recycled water will be stored in the respective catchments, each of which is served by its own elevated water tank.
Gravity system of water supply & distribution systems have been considered. Gravity system comprises the ground storage facilities, pumps, elevated storage facilities, pipes and appurtenances. Water will be pumped from ground storage facilities to the elevated storage facilities, which will then distribute potable water to end users by gravity.
Alternate water sources through rain water harvesting and perennial sources are also being planned to meet the desired water requirements.
